Balcatta has a split personality, and its fencing needs split the same way. On the light industrial and commercial side, the job is keeping people and vehicles out: chainmesh, garrison, palisade, and gates that shut and lock every night. On the residential streets, older homes are being knocked down or subdivided, which means new internal boundaries where none existed before. Both types of work land in our diary most weeks.
The housing stock through the residential pockets is largely older brick and tile on generous blocks, which is exactly why so much of it is being cut into two. Soil is the usual Perth sand over limestone, which digs easily but does not grip a post on its own. Commercial sites bring their own problem: hardstand, concrete aprons and services running through the ground, so we core, dig or bolt down depending on what is under the fence line.

On a subdivision that matters, because the new boundary often needs a low wall to hold the level change between the two lots before the fence can go on top. Chainmesh is still the cheapest way to put a secure line around a yard, and it is what most of the light industrial sites around Balcatta run. We use galvanised posts and mesh, tension it properly so it does not sag off the rails, and add barbed or razor topping where the site calls for it.
Garrison panels are the step up when the fence faces the street and has to look like something. Vertical steel pales, no footholds and hard to cut through quickly. We will walk the boundary with you and work out where mesh is fine and where garrison earns its money.
Commercial fencing has to survive forklifts, delivery trucks and weather, not just look tidy. We build heavier than a domestic fence: thicker posts, deeper footings and rails sized for the span. Where a vehicle is going to clip it eventually, we say so and build that section to cop it.
We work around your trading hours where we can, and we keep the site safe while the old fence is down. If you need a temporary run up overnight so the yard is not open, that is part of the conversation before we start, not an extra you find out about later.
When a Balcatta block gets cut in two, someone has to put a fence down the middle. That line has to sit exactly on the new title boundary, which means working off the surveyor’s pegs rather than guessing from the old side fence. Get it wrong and it becomes an expensive argument later.
We handle the whole run, including the returns back to the existing side fences and any low wall needed where the two lots sit at different levels. If the builder is still on site we will coordinate around them so the fence goes up when the ground is clear.
For the residential streets, Colorbond does the job: privacy, no maintenance and a clean line. Older Balcatta homes often still have the original fence, and after decades in Perth sand the posts have usually moved even where the sheets look passable. We replace the whole run rather than patching around a post that is on its way out.
Heights, colours and plinths get sorted before we quote, so you know what you are getting. If the block has a fall along the boundary we step the fence down neatly instead of leaving a wedge of daylight at the bottom.
A yard gate gets used dozens of times a day, so it fails long before the fence does. Wheels seize, tracks fill with grit, and the gate ends up propped open, which defeats the whole point of the fence. We build sliding gates on proper track or cantilever setups sized for the opening and the weight.
Automation suits sites where staff are in and out all day or where the gate is too heavy to shift by hand. We will talk through motor options, where the power runs and how the gate fails safe in a blackout before you commit to anything.
